Research Training and Development

Two routes through the same standard.

Training at CISBM runs along two routes. One is individual and supervised, beginning with Foundational Training and continuing into a chosen research skill. The other is a team setting in which methods are presented and longer projects are carried forward. Both end in the same place: work taken to a standard fit for publication.

The individual route

Individual Supervision and Personalised Research Pathways

One-to-one supervision that begins with Foundational Training and continues into a chosen skill from the immunology and genetics skillset.

  • Foundational Training W1a: narrative review synthesis, taught one to one
  • Foundational Training W1b: grant writing
  • Phase 2: a chosen skill, supervised, with its workshop course alongside

The team route

Research Development Meetings

The team setting in which a new method is presented and longer projects, such as systematic reviews and meta-analyses, are carried forward together.

  • A new skill or method is presented at each meeting
  • Longer projects are followed up from meeting to meeting
  • Open to approved members; joining requires an application

Where the courses sit

The skill courses are shared between both routes.

The taught component of Phase 2 is delivered through the Research Skill Development Workshops. Each workshop covers one method in depth and closes the same way: a research project is defined, carried out under supervision, and taken to publication-ready material before the workshop counts as passed.
